Boating Accidents

If you are a user of the wonderful water sports we have available in Southern Maryland, then you are truly blessed.  Safety is critical when boating on the Potomac River, Patuxent River, Chesapeake Bay and their tributaries.  However, not all users of the waterways that surround Charles, St. Mary's, Calvert and Prince George's County practice safe use of the water.  An individual is responsible for the cause of the injury when that individual is negligent while operating a vessel on the water.  The most common causes of boaints accidents in our waterways are as follows:

    1.   Collisions with other boats;

    2.   Collisions with fixed objects;

    3.   Improper operation of the vessel for conditions;

 
    4.   Persons falling overboard;

    5.   Failing to pay attention and/or taking proper precautions while engaged in skiing, tubing, wake boarding and other similar activities.
